Description

EcoRoute: The Green Guide (LOOKING FOR TEAMMATES!!!!!!)

A smart "green-aware" navigation app that creates beautiful hiking and travel routes around ecologically sensitive areas, allowing tourists to explore nature without harming it.

The Problem: Tourism is a vital industry, but "over-tourism" is damaging our most fragile natural treasures. Tourists, hikers, and explorers often unknowingly wander into protected breeding grounds or disturb sensitive wildlife—not because they're malicious, but because they simply don't know they're in a protected zone. Standard apps like Google Maps optimize for speed, not ecological preservation.

The Concept:

  1. See the Zones: We will use Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) data (specifically, the Natura 2000 dataset) to display protected, sensitive areas as "no-go zones" on a live map.

  2. Find the Path: The user will click a start and end point for their hike.

  3. Route Safely: Our app will call a routing API (like OpenRouteService) and feed it the Copernicus data as an avoid_polygons parameter. The result? The API will generate a hiking route that intelligently and automatically navigates around the protected zone.

  • The Galileo Link: The hackathon prototype is step one. The final product is a mobile app that uses Galileo's high-accuracy positioning to provide real-time, turn-by-turn navigation. This ensures tourists stay on the eco-friendly path with sub-meter accuracy, keeping them and nature safe.

My Role: I will be the Project Lead & UX/UI Designer.

  • I'll be responsible for the "big picture"—keeping us focused on the demo.

  • I will design the UI/UX mockups (e.g., in Figma or even just on paper) so our app looks professional.

  • I will write and deliver our final pitch to the judges. (we could do it together if u want to)

I'm looking for teamates:

  • 1. Front-End Developer (Web):

    • Your Mission: You'll be the expert on building the map interface.

    • Skills: You're comfortable with JavaScript and a mapping library like Leaflet.js or Mapbox. You'll bring the designs to life. (I'm a starting programmer, so I can definitely help with HTML/CSS, but I need someone to lead the main JS development!)

  • 2. Back-End / Data Specialist (API & GIS):

    • Your Mission: You'll handle the brains of the website.

    • Skills: You'll be responsible for making API calls (fetch requests) to the OpenRouteService. You'll also be our "Copernicus Hacker," responsible for finding the Natura 2000 GeoJSON data file we need.

  • 3. Anyone who wants to join and also provide some expertise are welcome <3
