💎 Concept
Our game "ECO Grid" is a step-by-step strategy with elements of city-building and resource management simulation, where the main goal is to maintain a balance between economy and ecology. We aim to demonstrate how even small management decisions can lead either to ecological disaster or to sustainable development.
Problem: Most territorial development games ignore ecological aspects — such as pollution, soil degradation, and water scarcity.Solution: We are creating a hexagonal map of Europe, where each tile has realistic environmental parameters based on Copernicus satellite data. Player actions affect the state of the environment, reflected in an updated “Copernicus Report”, which shows how human activity influences ecosystems.
🛰️ EU Space Technologies
We use data from the Copernicus Programme (EU Space Programme) — satellite maps, NDVI vegetation indices, air quality indicators, water level, and soil moisture data for the entire European region. These datasets form the foundation for generating the game world — a simplified hexagonal terrain map (elevation, soil type, vegetation).
Thus, space data adds authenticity and depth — turning the game into not just entertainment but also an educational simulator of sustainable management.
🌍 EU Space Data for User Engagement
We address the challenge of “Using space data to improve understanding of human impact on the environment.”
The player can literally see how their actions “color” the map — green zones may turn yellow or red depending on pollution indices. This is not an abstract metric, but a visualized interaction with real ecological data from the Copernicus programme.
Players gain a new type of experience — combining gameplay, analytics, and environmental education. The project therefore enhances ecological awareness through interactive simulation based on satellite data covering all of Europe.
