Description

 💎 Idea

The problem is that large shipping companies are unsure about traversing the arctic waters. We are going to offer them data which allows them to figure out if they can, and how safely can they traverse through them.

We also offer data source which allows them to optimize the transportation in planning phase.

🚀 EU space technologies

We are currently using copernicus satellite imaging for gathering ice thickness data. It's base for machine learning. Merging satellite imaging data and ice thickness sensor data. This gives more data for routing in icy seas. In future we should use more real life data and feed that dataset to algorithm. With real life data we are going to use local providers or universities that can help with data collection.

- LSTM Machine learning network (Learns from existing ice data and makes predictions on the future ice thickness, size, etc.)

- Mesh network  (connect the ships together to increase the flow of information in the arctic waters. It also allows real time assessment of arctic area data)

❄️ Connecting the Arctic

Safe passage at sea in the Arctic Sea Bridge passage near Greenland. We offer a service which helps maritime insurance and shipping companies to assess which is the correct time and which kind of ship to use when using the Arctic Sea Route. Our threshold method gives four different risk categories rather than the normal two (yes/no).

The four categories:

1. Green: No ice. Possible to go using a normal cargo ship.

2. Yellow: 0-1.0 m of ice. Use an ice-breaker cargo ship.

3. Orange: 1.0 - 2.8 m. Use a proper ice-breaker before passing with the cargo ship.

4. Red: >2.8m. Not possible to pass.

FINANCIALS:

- Freight rate for a cargo ship is approximately 80 000 dollars per day. Therefore the benefit per one green light is 720 000 dollars (80k$ * 9 days). The benefits of the yellow and orange opportunities are the same 720 000 per shipment minus the additional cost of using an ice-breaker cargo ship or a heavy-weight ice-breaker in addition to the rental of the cargo ship. One assistance of a heavyduty ice-breaker would be approximately 6 930 dollars which is minor compared to the benefit of the route.

SEASON: The season for operation has been normally 4 months from July to November. However, if we are able to extend this by two months and there is one shipment per day using the route then we would get cost savings of 60 days * 720 000 dollars = 4 800 000 dollars per year. This would be a moderate approximation

We will offer our service by a monthly subscription model which would cost 100 000€ per year.
