 💎 Idea

Observe Globally. Act locally.
We utilize space observation to figure out what is happen in soil in specific locations.

We entered the hackathon intending to use a known formula to predict when kale maggots exit their pupae state and become a hazard to agriculture. This would proof that we can calculate all insects that go through pupae state as the formula is the same.
When we realized how much observational data it is possible to retrieve through Cornelius, Sentinel 3 and then combining that with Riparian zones data we had all the measurables needed to predict almost all aspects of insect and plant behavior/patterns. This was too good to be true so we sought expert advisors and found Brynja Hrafnkelsdóttir and Guðmundur Halldórsson who both are entomologists and forestry experts and they confirmed our findings, we still didn't believe it so we sough more experts and they all confirmed our findings.
With moisture, wind, soil, surface and general heat we can know migration patterns, sprouting dates, opening of leaves, insect hatching times, exiting of pupae state, possible living conditions and much more.
For this competition we focused on the insect part we could identify market and confirm our predictions.

With the same formula and retrieved data we can identify when leaves of trees open.

The business opportunity is in the predictive AI which identifies when insects become a risk factors for industrial agriculture. Our end consumer are agricultural technicians responsible for countering pests and reduce risk of crop failures. By providing them detailed push notification through sms and email they can be certain when the insects are coming and we update them daily during the risk season with procentage likelihood of insects coming. This means they can respond with appropriate measure and can dramatically decrease pesticide use and replace their defensive methods with ecological solutions which we will offer information on.
We will also offer detailed information on the pest threats, we secure this information through collaboration with research entities in the appropriate fields as we offer them calculative capacity that no local entity can afford.

🚀 EU space technologies

We utilize Level 2 Land - Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) - Sentinel-3 (EO:ESA:DAT:SENTINEL-3:SL_2_LST___) For a precise ground surface temperature in any location in Iceland. We can also use some of the source data for this level like light reflection and soil moisture for additional calculations.

In the future it would be possible to use the Riparian Zones data set (EO:CLMS:DAT:RIPARIANZONES) combined with the above to identify ideal plant species to promote erosion control.
