TRAICK to help radiologists on diagnosing thyroid nodules accurately.

4. Please share with us a short description of your startup/project. 

TRAICK, our artificial intelligence application works on real-time image or video. By detecting the nodules, giving their TI-RADS scores, and malignity risks under 30 seconds, TRAICK saves time for physicians. It also assists them to decide if the patient needs a thyroid biopsy and helps in early diagnoses. TRAICK provides an opportunity to have an online second opinion from another physician. Additionally, its pocket-sized handheld ultrasound device helps you to visualize thyroid nodules anywhere. It becomes a non-invasive tool in the diagnosis of thyroid cancer.

5. Which problem do you want to solve with your startup? Give us your best elevator pitch!


Thyroid cancer is one of the fastest growing cancer types worldwide. However, there isn’t a routine screening program. Thyroid cancer ranks as the 5th most common cancer in Turkey and 8th most common cancer in the world. 

Diagnosis of thyroid nodules is usually made by ultrasonography.Ultrasonography is inexpensive, but it can bring a long wait, which can take 1-3 months. In addition, since it is a physician-dependent procedure, its evaluation is a very complex and subjective process. For this reason, doctors refer their patients to biopsy, which is a more challenging and costly screening method. Considering that 25% of biopsies performed in the world are unnecessary, the necessity of a more precise and rapid method in the diagnosis of thyroid nodules is inevitable.


6. What is the value proposition of the solution you want to develop?

Different evaluations in Tirads scores are eliminated with an autonomous system called TRAICK System. With the automation of the system, which takes time to calculate, radiologists can allocate the necessary time for emergency cases. It also enables secondary vision by saving time and cost of the same feature as a single view and cloud system.

7. Why do you think your team would be able to successfully create a viable product and business out of your early-stage idea?

Our Founder and CEO Burcu BEKTAŞ GÜNEŞ, a PhD student at the Department of Computer Engineering, as well as an academician. She has been working on Health Informatics for a long time.

Our marketing manager Şahmeran Arıcan was the general manager of an institution that serves the radiology departments of many of its hospitals in Turkey. He now works with us. He is highly experienced and well-known in the medical device industry. 

I am Nilay, a Biomedical Engineer. I am experienced in sales and marketing. I am responsible of investment processes, and sales. I also take role in the project management. 

Furkan Karadağ is a medical doctor. By coupling his medical expertise and programming knowledge, he conducts an effective interdisciplinary approach as the medical project manager in our team.

Our advisory board consist of multi-disciplinary professionals like radiologists, computer scientists, biomedical engineers and more..

8. Give us the top 5 features that are, in your opinion, crucial for the success of your healthcare startup.

Reachability: TRAICK is going to be reachable not only for healthcare providers but also for patients. In addition to healthcare workers, Traick can also be used by individuals. Patients can upload their medical image to the system and can generate an automated report by the help of AI. Then they can consult a radiologist.

Compatibility: TRAICK software is going to be workable on every ultrasound device, regardless of brand,

so, establishing this software is going to be an easy process. With this feature, It also includes Medical Device Manufacturers in the sales channel so broad the sales network.

Accuracy of Algorithm: We could manage to reach an accuracy rate of 78% on DEMO. The ambition on final product is 99%.

User Oriented Design: Automatic reporting feature of TRAICK is even halves the workload of physicians.

Time Saving features: TRAICK saves time for both healthcare professionals and patients by accelerating the process of diagnosing.

10. If your company was founded, when was this?

DATASURGERY Software and Consultating Ltd. Sti. is founded on 06.07.2021 to carry out the TRAICK project.

11. Has your startup received funding? 

Yes, TRAICK project gained 20.000 USD from the Turkey's Scientific and Technological Council.

12. Have you already incorporated your idea?

If yes, is the Trade License (Gewerbeanmeldung) older than 3 months at the time of the application?

Not yet.

13. How long have you all been working together on this idea?

We have been actively working for last 6 months.

14. What is your current milestone  - Idea / Prototype / Users / Paying Users 

Creating Prototype is our current milestone.After obtaining enough investment, we will finalize the minimal viable product and progress with the certfication process.

15. What have you done so far to validate your idea?

During this process we could reach 10 000 medical images. We developed an annotation platform for these medical images. Also, just by using 1000 images we could reach an accuracy rate of 78%. We aim to reach a higher level of accuracy after using all of the data.

Founder Burcu Bektaş Güneş, received the best paper award with her master's thesis. She was awarded several awards for her doctoral thesis. She is a PhD student at the Department of Computer Engineering, as well as an academician. She has been working on Health Informatics for a long time.

Nilay Barut a Biomedical Engineer who is experienced in sales of medical equipments. Her machine learning based license project was also awarded by Turkey's Science and Technological Council. She is responsible of investment processes and taking part in project management.
