
Derek is a third-year Biological and Medical Physics Co-op student at the University of Guelph, originally from Panama. He specializes in computational modelling, data analysis, and complex systems, and is passionate about applying physics and AI to solve real-world problems. Derek has contributed to multiple research projects and is currently co-authoring several scientific studies. With experience in scientific programming using Python, R, and Julia, his work spans from neural networks for physical simulations to electromagnetic particle trap modelling. At this hackathon, he brings his international perspective and technical skills to develop predictive, data-driven solutions for climate resilience and emergency planning.
