<h3>What is CASSINI Hackathon: Space for the Financial World?</h3><p>CASSINI Hackathons: Space for the Financial World is a bi-yearly technology event, spanning over three days of non-stop technical talks, workshops, competitions, and coding. For 60 hours straight, around 1,000 participants can enjoy world-class presentations, demos, community events, and its classic 48-hour coding competition.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Do I have to know how to code to participate?</h3><p>No, we encourage anyone with a passion for entrepreneurship, creative industry, and EU space technologies to participate. Bring your creative, business or design skills to a team!</p><h3><br /></h3><h3>Can I apply if I have no knowledge of Copernicus, Galileo, or EGNOS data and signals?</h3><p>Yes! We will provide you with the relevant training and access to data that you will need to succeed - even without prior knowledge.</p><p><br /></p><h3>How are applicants selected?</h3><p>CASSINI Hackathons: Space for the Financial World curators aim at selecting the best, most participative and motivated, programmers and creatives. For this, they rely on what candidates fill in their profiles (their pitches and personal bios) and evidence of engagement in previous editions (if applicable). CVs don't matter, please don't paste full CVs as an application pitch. What matters is your potential and your passion for technology, no matter your level of experience.</p><p><br /></p><h3>If there is no hackathon organised in my country, can I apply to the nearest one?</h3><p>Yes. The CASSINI Hackathons will have several hybrid locations, and you may apply to those. Just select a hackathon location that has the option of participating virtually.</p><p><br /></p><h3>How much does it cost?</h3><p>CASSINI Hackathons: Space for the Financial World is free for all selected candidates.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Do I have to register with a team?</h3><p>No, not at all. All participants must register as an individual and form a team after registering using the hackathon platform. Instructions will be provided after the registration process is complete.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Can I register our company employees in bulk?</h3><p>No. Candidates must register and apply individually.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Can I apply if I don’t have a concept in mind prior to the hackathon?</h3><p>Yes! Before the hackathon comes The Big Idea Campaign (17 - 20 October). This week-long series of events will set the scene and provides the opportunity for teams and participants to brainstorm ideas. It is not required to have a concept or idea in mind prior to application.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Do you pay for the attendees' transportation and/or accommodation costs?</h3><p>No. However, there may be discounts and other partnerships. If so, these will be announced in the months leading to the event, so make sure you follow us on one of the social networks where we're present.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Can I bring a guest to the event?</h3><p>No. In the hackathon competition can only participate the people that registered for the hackathon.</p><p><br /></p><h3>I was selected but can't attend the event, what do I do?</h3><p>Please let us know. Spots are limited and it would be nice if another candidate could go instead (but no, you cannot choose who that candidate might be).</p><p><br /></p><h3>When will the schedule be available?</h3><p>A detailed schedule will be available closer to the event, on our website</p><p><br /></p><h3>Will there be a live stream from the event?</h3><p>Yes, live streaming will be available. The feed will be focused on the activities taking place on the main stage, such as talks and contests. When nothing is going on there, you can expect a general transmission of the event.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Will the talks be recorded?</h3><p>Unless the speaker states otherwise, every talk will be recorded and available online in the weeks following the event.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Why is the official language English?</h3><p>We have attendees coming from all over Europe. English is usually well understood and accepted. Our main motivation is technology and talent, and these are global attributes, so our main 'language' is what we use to code. English is not the only language at the event, though. <h2>Meet the local organisers</h2><p><br /></p><p><strong>The Space for the Financial World CASSINI Hackathon is set for 4-6 November 2022! </strong>From Lithuania to Spain, this pan-European hackathon is set to put innovation and sustainability at the forefront with the help of Europe’s top entrepreneurs, coders and professionals. Meet the 10 selected local organisers who are helping to push the European finance sector forward.</p><p><br /></p><h3>1. Belgium: EY wavespace™️ Antwerp</h3><p><a href="https://www.ey.com/en_be/wavespace/antwerp" target="_blank">EY wavespace™️ Antwerp</a> is focused on open innovation and collaboration between corporates and start-ups. It facilitates projects in all innovation phases: from ideation, concept, prototype and co-creation to showcasing a project. With previous experience in running hackathons and a strong team, they are ready to bring innovators together to reinvent the way we do finance!</p><p><br /></p><h3>2. Czech Republic: CEE HACKS</h3><p><a href="https://www.ceehacks.com/" target="_blank">CEE HACKS</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Czechia! CEE HACKS powered by Insane Business Ideas s.r.o. is a consulting and information technology company. With previous experience with organising hackathons and working as an incubator, they are aiming to bring innovative ideas to the forefront and help in making them a reality.</p><p><br /></p><h3>3. Finland: Ultrahack</h3><p><a href="https://ultrahack.org/" target="_blank">Ultrahack </a>will be organising the Hackathon in Finland! Ultrahack offers IT services and consulting with the aim of driving growth, innovation, and digitalization across multiple industries by connecting public and private corporations with individuals, start-ups, and corporate developers. With plenty of experience in organising hackathons and a strong network of collaborators, they are aiming to give participants a space where they can re-imagine the European financial industry.</p><p><br /></p><h3>4. France: International Space University</h3><p><a href="https://www.isunet.edu/" target="_blank">The International Space University</a> will be organising the Hackathon in France! The International Space University is dedicated to the discovery, research, and development of outer space and its applications for peaceful purposes, through international and multidisciplinary education and research programs. With a strong set of expertise on the theme and a vast network, they are hoping to provide a space where space technology and finance meet and thrive.</p><p><br /></p><h3>5. Germany: N3XTCODER</h3><p><a href="https://n3xtcoder.org/" target="_blank">N3XTCODER</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Germany! Nextcoder Softwareentwicklungs GmbH focuses on IT consulting and services with the objective of aiding in the development of digital products, with a focus on breakthrough technologies that can tackle social problems globally. Having previously participated in the 1st CASSINI Hackathon and with solid experience in organising hackathons and acceleration programmes, they are keen to find new entrepreneurial talent in the financial industry.</p><p><br /></p><h3>6. Italy: Fondazione E. Amaldi</h3><p><a href="https://www.fondazioneamaldi.it/" target="_blank">Fondazione E. Amaldi</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Italy! Fondazione E. Amaldi was established by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Hypatia Research Consortium, as a project that aims to propose a new way of interpreting applied research and technology transfer in support of the national scientific heritage. Their aim is to promote and support scientific research aimed at technology transfer, starting from the space sector, as a fundamental tool for the country's economic development and as a source of innovation. Seeking to keep pushing innovation forward they will be welcoming the participants of the 4th CASSINI Hackathon.</p><p><br /></p><h3>7. Lithuania: Startup Division</h3><p><a href="https://www.startupdivision.eu/" target="_blank">Startup Division</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Lithuania! Startup Division is a leading start-up support organisation, building bridges between start-up ecosystems globally. Through a variety of pan-European and global projects, they collaborate with numerous renowned accelerators, incubators, investors, business angels &amp; venture capitals. Having worked with over 1.000 start-ups and an extensive list of collaborators through their different programmes they aim to continue to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of the European financial industry.</p><p><br /></p><h3>8. Slovenia: Venture Factory</h3><p><a href="https://venturefactory.org/" target="_blank">Venture Factory</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Slovenia! Venture Factory is a purpose-driven business &amp; ecosystem-building organisation that helps companies build their businesses. Their focus is on strategy development, business design and ecosystem collaboration. Having been actively involved in the start-up and innovation ecosystem by running a business incubator and with the support of a strong network of collaborators, they are looking for the next batch of visionaries ready to turn their ideas into actions at the 4th CASSINI Hackathon.</p><p><br /></p><h3>9. Spain: Fundació Privada Knowledge Innovation Market BCN</h3><p>The <a href="https://kimglobal.com/en/kimbcn/" target="_blank">Fundació Privada Knowledge Innovation Market</a>, the <a href="https://www.cambrabcn.org/en_US/web/cambra-english/home" target="_blank">Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona</a>, and the <a href="https://www.ieec.cat/" target="_blank">Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Spain! The Fundació Privada Knowledge Innovation Market promotes the development of space technology, scouting the most forward-thinking solutions. The Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona has recently established a Commission for Space and  Aeronautics to promote and connect space entrepreneurs. Finally, the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia fosters space research, innovation and the sector’s competitiveness, particularly as the promoter of the New Space strategy of Catalonia.</p><p><br /></p><h3>10. Switzerland: Space4Impact</h3><p><a href="https://space4impact.org/" target="_blank">Space4Impact</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Switzerland! Space4Impact promotes the adoption of space technologies that have a positive impact on Earth. With their Space2Earth Accelerator, they aim to help space start-ups to bring the power of satellite data to new markets. With a strong link to the theme and have already participated in the 1st CASSINI Hackathon they are now aiming to bring entrepreneurs and coders together to shake up the current European financial industry.</p>

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?</h3><p><br /></p><p>All European students, entrepreneurs, engineers, designers, researchers, policymakers, financial professionals, and others are welcome to participate. You are eligible if <strong>you are 18 years old </strong><strong>or older</strong> at the start of the Hackathon (4 November) and <strong>reside in an EU Member State</strong>, Norway, Switzerland, or Iceland. All teams must have at least 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 8 members.</p><p><br /></p><h3>5. IMPORTANT DATES</h3><p><br /></p><p>💡 <strong>17 - 20 October | Big Ideas Campaign</strong></p><p>Join us for this series of online evening events where we aim to spark your creativity and help you meet fellow team members. We kick off with our launch session, then dive into the key space technologies and how they are used in the financial industry. Pick and choose the sessions that interest you and be ready to be inspired. The agenda will be published at the start of October.</p><p>📅 <strong>2 November| Registration deadline</strong></p><p>Register before the deadline - this applies for both you AND your teammates.</p><p>🤓 <strong>4 - 6 November | The Hackathon Weekend</strong></p><p>The main event! Join hundreds of participants around Europe as you develop new products and services that contribute to the future of finance, insurance and investments. Each location will select one winning team at the end of the weekend to move on to the Demo Day &amp; Awards Ceremony.</p><p>🏆<strong> 9 November | Demo Day &amp; Awards Ceremony</strong></p><p>The 10 local winners from around Europe will come together to pitch their solutions in front of an expert jury board that will select the top 3 hackathon projects. This event will be made public to everyone.</p><p><br /></p><h3>6. JUDGING CRITERIA</h3><p><br /></p><p>Both at the local level and the European level your solutions will be judged against three simple criteria.</p><ol><li><strong>Relevance (33%) - </strong>Does the project address one of the hackathon's three challenges? Does the project make use of Copernicus, Galileo and/or EGNOS data and signals?</li><li><strong>Innovativeness (33%) - </strong>How innovative is the idea compared to products/services that are already on the market? <h2>Rules are important to run a safe and fair hackathon!</h2><p><br /></p><p>Please read the full set of rules in our <a href="https://www.cassini.eu/hackathons/terms-conditions.pdf" target="_blank">Terms &amp; Conditions</a>. We have summarised the most important ones for you below:</p><ul><li><strong>✔️ Eligibility criteria.</strong> You must live in an EU Member State, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland and be 18 years or older to participate in the hackathon competition. All teams must have at least 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 8 members.</li><li><strong>💻 Fresh code only.</strong> To ensure a level field for all contestants, all code must be created by the team, during the Hackathon Weekend. But you are permitted to use publicly available or openly licensed APIs, SDKs, frameworks and other software libraries for your project. Any software development tools and/or programming language can be used.</li><li><strong>🤲 Everyone is welcome.</strong> We welcome all participants regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status.</li><li><strong>💜 Be nice to each other.</strong> We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status. We do not tolerate harassment on our platforms in any form. </li><li><strong>⛔ Use your time and energy to innovate for good</strong>, not to make the world a worse place. Activities promoting or related to alcohol, tobacco, religion, politics, intolerance, violence, firearms, pornography, obscenity, gambling, or illegal drugs are explicitly excluded from the hackathon. <h2>Discover the prizes</h2><h2><br /></h2><h3>The hackathon competition ⚔️</h3><p>At the end of the Hackathon Weekend (4-6 November), each hackathon location will organise a pitch contest to select the local winner and runner-ups. The local winners (one team per location) will then be invited to present their project during Demo Day (9 November), where a professional jury will select the 3 overall winners of the hackathon.
