  • Who is eligible to participate in the event?

This event may be focused on Europe, but it is open to all.

Whether you’re an experienced blockchain or non-blockchain developer, want to learn more about building on/for Polkadot, or are entirely new to the Web3 space, we welcome you!

So long as you are a legitimate citizen who are not within our list of ineligible countries, with an internet connection and is 18 years old and above.

(Please refer to the Participation Agreement to check the list of countries whose residents are not eligible to take part in this Hackathon and other eligibility restrictions)

  • Can non-developers/engineers participate in the event?

Yes! We want anyone with ideas or the passion to innovate to participate. Teams will however need at least one individual who can build/code a prototype as a code artefact is required for project submission.

  • How do I change my interested Challenge Category?

You may change your interested Challenge Category anytime via the Portfolio Update Form.

Teams

  • What is the total number of participants I can have on my team?

The minimum number of participants in a team is 1, while the maximum number is 5 (including yourself). If you have no team members, you can either participate as a Solo Hacker, or form/ join a team following the guide in Taikai.

  • Can I form teams with individuals from other countries?

Definitely! Inter-country teams are highly encouraged so that perspectives of people from various backgrounds can be incorporated into your project.

  • How can I go about forming my team?

View our detailed Team Formation page on some of the ways you can go about forming your team.

  • Can I belong to more than 1 team?

No. You can only belong to 1 team. If you with to change teams or leave your current team to form your own, refer to our Team Formation page.

  • Do all members of my team have to register for the event?

Yes! Only registered individuals are eligible to participate and collect the prizes. Please ensure that all members of your team have registered their teams accordingly as well.

Project Submission

  • Do I only have to build on Substrate or be familiar with Polkadot?

While we hope you’ll be able to build on Substrate, we welcome everyone to build based on whatever knowledge, skills and expertise you have. One of the objectives of the hackathon is for you to learn and understand about the Polkadot ecosystem, so we welcome anyone to join us!

  • Can I or my team submit more than 1 project for the event?

No, each team (solo hacker or otherwise) is only allowed to submit 1 project for the event.

  • What if my team has more than 1 project that we’d really like to build and submit for this event?

In this case, we’d recommend the team to be split, and submit the projects under different team names and with different team members in each team. However, do note that the team cannot have repeated members across teams and that prize won will only be awarded to the specific team with its registered members.

Prize Administration

  • Who will I be expecting the prize money to be administered by?

The Polkadot Prodigy Team will be responsible for prize administration after the winners announcement. Do keep a look out from an email from us to go through the necessary verification process before prize money can be disbursed to the winning teams.

  • What currency will the prize money and bounties be in?

All prize money will strictly be in USDT only.

  • When will the prize money be administered?

All prize recipients for the main hackathon tracks will be contacted within thirty (30) days after the announcement of the Finalists, and prize administration will take place within the next sixty (60) days.
