Problem

One of the biggest concerns for navigation on the Arctic sea is safety. Increasing volumes of cruise ships through the Arctic region since the ice is melting can result in various problems. There are a number of hazards which cause ship accidents including grounding/stranding, ship collision with obstacles, etc. Additionally, poorly-updated nautical charts on ship and outdated navigation system are also big challenges. Ship accidents are not only damaging to the ship owners and the passengers, but also it's extremely harmful to the environment such as oil spills, sea bed erosion, etc. When an accident happens, the insurance can go as high as 496k€ while the rescue effort and costs can be tremendous due to the remote location.

Especially for cruise ships, safety is the main priority. Since the Arctic region is highly unpredictable, thousands of passengers' lives on the cruise ship rely on safe navigation at sea. Ship property can suffer from damage and high insurance cost without safety. A cruise ship can carries up to 4000 travellers at once, which leads to extreme risks for travelling in the Arctic. Moreover, a stranded ship on the sea can wait for hours or days for the rescue effort. I am sure that no travellers would wan to pay a high amount of money (which can go up to €9k per trip) for the trip to Arctic just to be frozen and stuck in the middle of nowhere and be fearful of the worst consequences.

Currently, existing solutions for navigation at sea utilise mostly nautical chart, radar and sonar technology. These technologies are not up-to-date, lack of data accuracy, data diversity and timely updates.

Solution

Our solution provides an optimised route navigation solution with safety at heart. Utilising satellite dataset and geolocation signals, our solution is more accurate and timely than the existing system. We embrace the latest technologies with high data accuracy and diversity to supply the most up-to-date navigation system with more timely updates. As a cruise ship usually carries thousands of travellers, we aim to ensure the travellers' safety and their cruise experience. C-Route system monitors and forecasts obstacles at sea including ice hazards, weather extreme, ocean floor, current and tidal waves, etc. We also care for wildlife by suggesting safe distances towards their habitats.

🚀 EU space technologies

Our solution utilises GNSS for navigation signal and Copernicus data set for monitoring and forecasting obstacles in Arctic sea.

❄️ Connecting the Arctic

Our solution solves the Safe passage at sea challenge. We provide route optimisation solution for safe navigation at sea based on obstacles on the sea. We make sure that thousands of passengers on the cruise ships safely travel through the Arctic while ship property is protected.
